What does ensemble mean and do you sell all of your mattresses as an ensemble?

A bed consists of a base and a mattress. When sold together it is called an ensemble. We can sell bases and mattresses if required. That way you know for sure you have the right size and strength features in the base for your chosen mattress, and you can obtain the best deal possible on your purchase. All of our mattresses can be sold in an ensemble with a correctly sized, posturised and supportive base. Shop our Nova baseshereand create your own ensemble.

What kind of foam is used in Beds R Us beds?

Sleepyhead and SleepMaker exclusively source their comfort layers from Dunlop Foams. This allows them to use the highest quality foams possible. Dunlop Foams are completely Australian Made.

Dunlop Foams:

All our foams at Beds R Us are Australian made. We use premium Dunlop foam to deliver long-lasting comfort and reliable support in our mattresses and bedding products. Dunlop foam is known for its durable structure and consistent feel, making it ideal for both comfort and support layers. It is available in a range of firmness levels, typically measured in Newtons (N) — for example, softer grades around 40–80N (plush) provide plush pressure relief, medium grades around 80–130N (medium) offer balanced comfort and support, and firmer options from 130–200N (firm/super firm) deliver enhanced stability and back support.

With density (weight) options commonly ranging from approximately 16kg/m³ to 70kg/m³. Heavier foams resist sagging and maintains its shape over time. Using heavier foams results in a mattress that offers excellent spinal alignment, reduced partner disturbance, superior resilience, and long-term performance — giving you dependable comfort night after night. As you increase density, you can expect to get better comfort and better support for a longer period of time.

All Dunlop bedding foams are ultra-fresh treated.

Ultra-fresh treated foams:

At Beds R Us, our Australian made Dunlop foams are enhanced with Ultra-Fresh®, an antimicrobial treatment which is endorsed by the Australian Asthma Foundation, designed to keep your mattress feeling cleaner and fresher for longer. Ultra-Fresh® helps inhibit the growth of bacteria, mould, and dust mites within the foam — common triggers for allergies and unwanted odours. Integrated directly into the Dunlop foam during production, it provides long-lasting protection without affecting the foam’s comfort, support, or breathability. The result is a healthier sleep environment, improved hygiene, and greater peace of mind, all while maintaining the durability, resilience, and supportive performance that Dunlop foam is known for.

Memory Foam:

We are very proud to be using all Australian made memory foams which are created for Australian climatic conditions, by using an open cell construction technique which provides you with a better cell wall integrity, giving the foam faster recovery time and a longer lifespan. This also enables a greater ease of altering your sleeping position and getting in and out of bed.

Gel infused Memory Foam (Fusion Gel):

Our Australian made memory foam is infused with mineral gel particles that enhances the cooling properties of the foam helping to draw excess heat away from the body. Fusion gel as it’s called, is universally considered one of the best surface materials on the planet at 68kg/m3. It provides exceptional reduction in pressure points and a comfort that needs to be experienced to be appreciated.

Graphene infused Memory Foam:

Graphene‑Infused Memory Foam elevates traditional memory foam by blending it with ultra‑conductive graphene particles, creating a sleep surface that stays cooler, cleaner, and more responsive. This advanced material helps disperse excess body heat more efficiently, reducing the build‑up of warmth often associated with standard memory foam.

The addition of graphene also enhances durability and hygiene, thanks to its naturally antimicrobial properties. The result is a contouring, pressure‑relieving foam that adapts to your body while promoting a fresher, more temperature‑balanced night’s sleep.

What is Dreamfoam?

Dreamfoams are part of a new generation of eco‑friendly foams, manufactured with reduced environmental impact and lower emissions. They are engineered with a specific structure that provides cell wall integrity and consistency, that enhances pressure relief and overall comfort levels and are available in a range of densities and feels.

Gel infused Dreamfoam:

Super breathable, Australia Made foam infused with natural mineral Gel particles that enhances the cooling properties of the foam helping draw excess heat away from your body and extending the life of the foam. At 34kg/m3 this is an excellent quality foam.

Copper infused Dreamfoam:

Copper‑Infused Dreamfoam combines advanced comfort technology with the natural benefits of copper to create a cleaner, cooler, and more supportive sleep surface. By infusing premium Dreamfoam with microscopic copper particles, this innovative material is used for heat management in foams. Copper’s naturally antimicrobial properties also work to keep the mattress fresher for longer, reducing the growth of odour‑causing bacteria. The result is a responsive, breathable foam that contours gently to your body while maintaining a healthier, more hygienic sleep environment. People have reported additional benefits of blood flow helping relief of arthritis.

Titanium infused Dreamfoam:

Titanium significantly improves thermal conductivity, allowing for a dramatic improvement in heat transfer.

What is Kulkote Silver?

Kulkote silver is applied to the surface of selected comfort foams. It is made from beeswax, water and polymers with the addition of silver, for enhanced antimicrobial properties. This combination creates what is know as phase change material, which is exclusively used and developed for Beds R Us and when applied to the surface of comfort materials, it promotes superior temperature regulating properties.

What is a Climatex or Airwave Quilt?

The initial surface of the mattress is crafted by layering soft loft fibres (Nouvol) between two sheets of premium Dreamfoam. When quilted to premium fabrics, this creates a beautifully balanced and breathable sleep surface. This clever construction enhances airflow throughout the mattress, creating a cooler and drier sleep, helping to regulate temperature and keep you comfortable through the night. Some of our mattresses have an airwave foam used in the quilting to further enhance the comfort and airflow.

In some instances, a non-quilted, high stretch material is used in place of Climatex, because it may be beneficial for some construction methods, such as our Nourish and Relax mattresses.

Nouvol:

Unlike bonded polyester, Nouvol is a siliconized raw polyester fibre superior to any other, providing longer life, better breathability, moisture wicking and comfort.

What kind of springs do you use in Beds R Us beds?

Traditional Spring Support Systems:

Traditional spring systems have been categorized as a spring unit, where each spring is interconnected (top and bottom) by what is called a Helical wire. This spring system is known for its strength and durability however due to its construction, can have more partners disturbance than other options. An advantage to traditional spring system mattresses is that they can offer exceptional value.

Pocket Spring Support System:

Pocket springs are individually encased springs, wrapped in its own pocket, which do not require a Helical wire, meaning the springs can move independently of each other. Pocket spring mattresses adapt to your body shape and sleeping positions, providing better support for your shoulders, hips and lower back, resulting in improved spinal alignment and reduced pressure points. They offer superior conformability and less partner disturbance, making them ideal for couples.

For many years, pocket spring mattresses have been used in the industry as they are considered one of the most supportive systems on the
market. Each pocket spring can compress and expand on its own, adapting to the weight and shape of the sleeper.

Pocket springs come in various heights, strengths and comfort levels, so be sure to consult with your local Beds R Us professional to determine which is the right one for your needs.

(New) Combined Foam and Pocket Spring Core Support Systems:

Using a combination of both foam and pocket spring support systems is a new technology that we have spent years developing. This new technology provides a unique ability to conform to your body providing an unrivalled level of stability and breathability. For a wider cross-section of people, this system is strong, durable and unbelievably comfortable, providing an amazing level of support for your shoulders, hips and back.

There are multiple variations of this foam and spring support system, ranging from our For you Ultimate, Pinnacle, Summit, Oasis Signature and Sensorzone ranges.

Foam Core Support System:

Foam core mattresses are ideal for the person who wants no partner disturbance, as they have no springs and zero bounce, providing you
with a more restful sleep. The right combination for you can provide amazing level of comfort, support and durability, whilst being adjustable bed friendly and easy to make.

If open cell, gel or copper is used foam core mattresses prevent heat and moisture build-up. All our foam core mattresses feature hypoallergenic foams which are great for allergy sufferers.

Zone Support Systems:

Historically, all mattresses were non-zoned, meaning it was the same level of support head to toe. Over the last few decades, zoned mattresses were introduced.

Non-zoned mattresses still suit the widest cross-section of people, are generally very supportive to a wide range of body types.

3 Zone – the middle third of the bed is made firmer by using various techniques depending on the core support system. There is a multitude of techniques used to achieve this outcome. Check in-store for details.

5 zone mattresses are generally softer at the hips, firmer at the waist and softer at the shoulders through to the end of the bed. However there are alternatives to this, such as our Osteo range which uses a complex arrangement of progressive rate springs and linear springs  – please see in store for more details.

7 zone mattresses are designed for more shapely/curvaceous people, to give unrivalled pressure relief under the hip, support under the waist, pressure relief under the shoulder and more support at the end of the mattress.

Mini pocket coil:

Also called comfort spring or transitional spring, the mini pocket coil is used in conjunction with other comfort layers above the core support system and provides excellent air-flow, temperature management and body contouring for superior reduction in skin pressure and durability.

Edge Support:

We strengthen the edge of our mattresses depending on the core support system and the specific requirements of the mattress ranges. There are multiple types of edge support systems that we use to enhance the ease of getting in and out of bed, maintaining the structure of the mattress, enhancing airflow through the mattress, preventing roll-out and hammocking.

Can you tell me some information about your bed bases?

Absolutely! All our bed bases meet the warranty requirements for all our suppliers of Australian mattress manufacturers, by being a high grade rigid solid platform base including adjustable bases, draw bases and gas-lift beds. Our bases are designed and built to give the ultimate support system for your mattress.

Things to consider when buying bases/bed frames separately:

-         Manufacturers will not warrant your mattress on either a posture slat or a sprung base - these bases will ultimately alter the comfort, support and life expectancy of your mattress

-         When purchasing consider ease of access into the room. Be mindful of the size of bed bases and frames. Talk with your store about split bases and other options available.

Adjustable bases:

Speak to your local store about adjustable bed bases to suit your needs, from lifestyle preferences to medical requirements.

Bed Frames:

Visit our bed frame page to see what we have available online or visit your local store for more options.

What bedding or manchester is available for sale at Beds R Us?

Each store stocks a selection of bedding, including pillows, pillow and mattress protectors, quilts and blankets. These are available in allergy-friendly, water-proof and regular varieties. Please visit your local Beds R Us store for details.

How long will it take for the new smell of the bed to dissipate?

If the new smell bothers you when you unwrap your mattress, we recommend that you let your mattress breathe before making it up with bedding for the first time. Let it breathe again when changing the sheets and bedding over the first few weeks. Opening windows to improve the ventilation may also assist.

Our beds are manufactured to the highest Australian standards so you can be safe in the knowledge that you and your family will be sleeping on a high-quality new mattress.

Caring for your mattress

How often should I rotate my mattress?

Modern mattresses are now designed to be rotated, not flipped.

To break in your new mattress when you first get it, you need to use the whole surface as evenly as possible, ensuring the middle of the mattress is also used. (Great excuse to cuddle in bed! You can also lay in the centre of the mattress while reading or watching TV.) This helps to distribute wear more evenly and can reduce the likelihood of impressions over time.

For the first 6 months, rotate your mattress every 2 weeks for the first 3 months, and then every every 3 months for the next 3 months. After that, rotate it every 6 months. You may wish to rotate more frequently if there is a difference in the size of sleeping partners, or if one partner is away often.

Should I use a mattress protector on my mattress?

Using a quality mattress protector is essential for looking after your mattress, as it helps to keep your mattress clean and provides a healthier sleeping envionment.

Please note: Workplace health and safety laws prevent the repair or inspection of mattresses that are not clean. In the unlikely event that service is required, your warranty may be void if the mattress has stains or marks.

How do I clean my mattress?

The best way to maintain the mattress surface is by vacuuming with the upholstery attachment on your vacuum cleaner. This can be done as often as you like. Keeping your mattress clean helps ensure your warranty remains valid.

If you use a mattress protector on your mattress, this will also help to keep the surface clean.

What is the best way to move my mattress?

Your new mattress may be heavy so you should always use two people when moving it to prevent both injuries to the people moving it and damage to the actual mattress.

Please note: The handles on the sides of the mattress should be used for positioning it, not for lifting it.

Choosing A Bed For Others

How can I choose the right mattress for my child?

Children are lighter than adults, but that doesn’t mean their bodies need less support and comfort. The best thing to do is to bring your child into a store to try out our beds and decide on the best one for their body and your budget.

All of our ranges come in single and king single size and many also have a long single option for growing kids.

Wonderest Home Value offers a junior range as a good starting point for children’s mattresses, however the Slumber mattress range is the ideal option for your child’s first bed onwards because:

1.     It provides the best level of support, right from the beginning and well into their teens.

2.     Parents often lay down with young children to get them to sleep and the Slumber range has a good edge support system to support 2 people.

3.     Growing children should be sleeping on a non-zoned support system, because as their body grows, they will have all over support, whereas the zoning doesn’t apply to growing bodies.

If your child is 8 or 9 you might like to consider buying a good quality king single or double bed with a ten-year warranty that will last them through to their young adult years, and potentially beyond.

If you’re looking for luxury, check out the Ultra Plush For You Pinnacle in double size, as these are non-zoned. If you want a medium feel that also looks after your hip pocket, consider a double size Slumber bed for your child.

Every body is different, so be sure to visit your local Beds R Us store and ask about beds for children.

What bed do you recommend for unexpected guests?

In preparation for having visitors staying in your home you might like to purchase an Australian-made guest bed. With the right balance of features to be comfortable, without a high price tag, these ranges are available at all Beds R Us stores year round.

What If I Have Allergies?

What products do you recommend for someone with allergies?

Dunlop Foams may assist those suffering from allergies, as they also treat their foam with Ultrafresh, which has anti-microbial properties and may reduce the presence of some allergens.

Ultrafresh is included in all of Sleepyhead’s mattress ranges, and this technology may help control common allergens for a fresher and cleaner sleeping environment.

Most Beds R Us stores will also sell pillow protectors and mattress protectors that deter dust mite infestation. The pillow case, sheets and protectors can all be laundered, enabling you to reduce the amount of dust mites in the bed.

If you’re still finding yourself losing sleep over unanswered questions, please head to our Contact Us page where we will be happy to assist you further.
